*********************************************************************
RCIA came from a revised Rite prepared by the Congregation for Divine Worship and approved for use by Pope Paul VI on January 6, 1972; it is the direct result of the decrees of the Second Vatican Council. The rite is clear – “faithfully and constantly proclaim the living God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent for the salvation of all” (RCIA 36).
RCIA really is about people; people on the move; people building a foundation; people on a journey; people living and sharing their Christian faith, showing people how to live the Catholic life. It is about the total Church community being attentive and involved as primary ministers and witnesses in this procedure. It is about parishioners in various ministries, such as guides, companions, sponsors, catechists, prayers, spiritual advisers and their warmth, their open attitudes and hospitality.
RCIA is a gradual process where newcomers are welcomed into this community of believers; it establishes a living bond between the new member and the current members as Church. Initiation of adults aims at changing the heart and transforming the spirit. This cannot be done by an educational program alone; therefore, must involve all aspects of parish life.
RCIA Guidelines
Information - To share basic information –about Christianity first, and then about the way in which the Christian life is lived in the Catholic tradition.
Inspiration - To communicate the vision which gives real meaning to our beliefs and practices, by witnessing and sharing. Christianity can’t be taught it must be caught.
Formation - To meet for prayer, Liturgy of the Word, presentations on a range of topics, socializing and discussions.
Service - To live the faith the church community is catechizing.
Under the supervision of our pastor, Father Mark Hession, and directors, Pat and Bruce Thomas, a team of parishioners is ready to assist those who want to learn more about the Catholic faith. You are cordially invited to join this team.
Do you have questions about God, about the meaning of life, about prayer, sin or Mary or the Saints? If so, you are invited to join others who have similar questions.
Who is responsible for the candidates in our RCIA process? WE ALL ARE! …. the entire parish. We pray for them, give them support and good example and we travel the road of conversion with them as we continually allow ourselves to be changed by our God. Bringing new members into the church is part of what we are commissioned to do through our baptism. Our faith is a gift…..one to be shared. Is there someone you can invite to join our faith journey??
