ENNEAGRAM WORKSHOP

Discovering Our True Selves before God

Saturday May 10, 2008

Registration 8:45am Closing 3:45pm

Christ the King Parish Hall

Co-Sponsored by Christ the King Parish and Our Lady of Victory Parish

Have you ever wondered.......

why you do the things you do? And perhaps even more so, why other people behave the way they do?

A basic question that a person faces in the human journey is that of identity, "Who am I?" The late
Dag Hammarskjold perceptibly remarked that we have become adept at exploring outer space, but that we have not developed similar skills in exploring our own inner spaces. He wrote, "The longest journey is the journey inwards." Self-knowledge and knowledge of others can provide an opportunity to further appreciate and accept ourselves and others.

The Enneagram is one way of helping persons to come to a greater freedom and authenticity before God. Sister Gail O'Donnell RSCJ, Spiritual Director, retreat leader, and Director of Continuing Education at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, MA will be the presenter for our workshop, The Enneagram: Discovering our True Selves Before God. She has been giving Enneagram workshops for the past twenty years.

What is the Enneagram?

The Enneagram is an ancient method of understanding our own personalities and has been utilized for centuries to increase self-knowledge. This methodology holds that there are nine basic styles of life patterns and general behaviors. The Enneagram has been passed down from generation to generation in the oral tradition and is therefore best learned in an environment where individuals have the opportunity to interact directly with the leader.

During this workshop, we will listen to thoughtful presentations on each of the nine Enneagram types. We will also prayerfully consider reflection questions to help each of us to understand our loved ones and ourselves better.
An appreciation of why we act the way we do, as well as why others act differently, can serve to
facilitate reconciliation within ourselves, our relationships, and the communities in which we live.

About our presenter...

Sister O’Donnell began her work at Weston Jesuit in 2000 when she served as Spiritual Director and Facilitator of Colloquuium for the sabbatical program. She is also the Director of Young Professed for the Society of the Sacred Heart, U.S. Province. Sister O’Donnell has seved the Society of the Sacred Heart in a number of capacities over the years, including Area Director, Director of Religious Development, and as a member of the International Formation Team, for which she lived and worked in Rome, Italy. She has taught English as a Second Language in both Boston and Seoul Korea. She holds a B.A. from Newton College of the Sacred Heart (now Boston College), a M.A. from Manhattanville College, and a M.Div. from Weston Jesuit.

Taize
Taize, a little village in France, is the home of an ecumenical community of Brothers. The simple prayer practiced by the monks of Taize has attracted people from all over the world. These travelers have carried their experience home with them and today prayer, in the tradition of Taize, can be found in all parts of the world. Come join us on the first Monday evening of each month as we, too, raise our voices in prayer and song and our hearts in silence in the manner of our Taize counterparts. We will gently anticipate together the great celebration of Pentecost. While deeply rooted in Christian tradition, this prayer has something special to say to contemporary humankind. Monday, May 5th at 7pm in the Church. No experience necessary, just bring along your eager heart held open to prayer.

An Invitation to Proclaim the Word
We need more voices to proclaim the scripture for our Sunday liturgies. It’s a wonderful opportunity to serve the faith community. Training will be provided. Interested? Call Patricia Clock 775-5744 x112.

ADMINISTRATION

Parking at Our Lady of Hope
We’ve confirmed that old habits do die hard - parking is no longer acceptable on any part of the lawn. Police have cautioned us not park on the street where No Parking signs are present, they will tag illegally parked vehicles. Use the parking lot and other off street parking where possible, it’s free. Please pull all the way into stripped lanes, when spaces are full, parking is acceptable in the driving lanes. The curved stone driveway at the front of the chapel, is meant for special needs and drop offs. That area can be used for some overflow parking during busier seasons and summer months.

7 AM Mass
Sunday 7 am Mass will resume on May 11 and Daily Mass at 7 am will resume on May 12.

Main Church
On a recent insurance inspection, we were advised by our Diocesan Insurance Representative to keep all but one of the doors of the church locked when the church is in use. With this in mind, as of September 1, we will begin locking all doors except the door closest to the Blessed Sacrament. This door will remain unlocked until the Parish Office is closed at approximately 5 pm. We chose this door because it is handicapped accessible and also it the closest to the Blessed Sacrament. Thank you for your understanding.

Diocese in Compliance with Charter
June 2007 marked the fifth anniversary of the passage of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People by U.S. bishops at their meeting in Dallas. In the Fall River Diocese ensuring the compliancy of all parishes, entities and programs with the Charter is the responsibility of the Office of Child Protection of Catholic Social Services. Over the past five years this office has processed 12,893 CORI or criminal background checks on employees/volunteers; conducted 12 training workshops for Catholic school principals and parish religious education directors; trained 6,946 employees/volunteers in abuse prevention; conducted 25 audits of parish & school abuse prevention programs; and coordinated a national conference on abuse prevention with 80 participants from around the country.

Independent auditors have found the Fall River Diocese to be in compliance with the Charter each year since audits became mandatory for U.S. dioceses in 1003. Most of the provisions required by the Charter were already in place in this diocese since 1993.

Calendar

We have included the calendar of events in the bulletin which are taking place in the parish during the month of July. This calendar will be in the last weekend of each month for your planning purposes. Please be sure to submit all activities to the parish office, for inclusion on the calendar, by the middle of each month. The calendar is available HERE.

Defibrillator
A defibrillator has been set up in the candle room. It is for use while awaiting the arrival of emergency personnel, when someone suffers sudden cardiac arrest. We want to train and certify additional volunteer rescuers in CPR and the use of a defibrillator. If you wish to be trained, or if you are already trained and certified, are willing to be a volunteer rescuer if the need arises, please call Ralph Babusci (508-778-0193; ralbabusci@aol.com) or Marie Malo (508-428-8473).

Request for Meeting Space
Because of the addition of our new Family and Faith Formation Center, we are instituting a new policy for all use of Parish Facilities. We have a new form in the office (or on the website on the Facilities Use page) which must be completed for each group requesting to use any of the parish facilities. Our calendars will all be computerized, therefore, your request must be submitted and approved prior to the use of meeting space. You will receive a verification when the space is approved. We appreciate your cooperation as we get it in place.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVOLVEMENT

STEWARDSHIP

St. Vincent de Paul
It is truly amazing to consider the generosity and compassion of our Parish community. In the 1st quarter of 2008, the St. Vincent de Paul at OLV and OLH helped our friends and neighbors with utility, rent, and mortgage payments, as well as food and clothing vouchers totaling approx. $12,600.00. Your donations and support in the 1st quarter was approx. $11,700.00!!! Outstanding... [Special thanks to J.K.]

In the Gospel today, Jesus says to us: “If you love me, you will keep my Commandments…Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you will reveal the love of the Father to your suffering brothers and sisters

Jubilee Business Patrons

As part of Our Lady of Victory’s 50th Anniversary events, the St. Vincent dePaul Society is asking business owners and professions to help in their efforts to raise funds to help families in need. If 50 “Business/Professions” could come up with a one-time monetary gift, it could make a real miracle take place here, through the work of the parish volunteers of St. Vincent dePaul. These funds go directly back to the Parish community by providing assistance to our neighbors and friends in need. It’s easy! Three gift levels, something to fit everyone.

Gold - $1,000 Silver - $500 Bronze - $250

Please make your check payable to St. Vincent dePaul Society and send to the Parish Office.

A Request
We have had many parishioners take advantage of using internet bill pay service and would request that you put a notation in the memo what the check is for, example, the “Capital Campaign”. We want to be sure that we are putting your funds in the appropriate account. Thank you very much.

Tax Statement
If you would like to receive a copy of your contributions and donations for the year 2006, please call the Parish Office at 508-775-5744 or e-mail Nancy at olvoffice@olvparish.org

Memorial Gift Opportunity
Anyone wishing to donate the flowers on the Altar as a memorial to a loved one, please contact the Parish Office.

Walkway of Faith
If you have more questions or would like to purchase a brick for the Walkway of Faith, please see a Capital Campaign representative, or call Kelley Spodris at 508-775-5744, Ext. 113. You may also download and print the order form and mail to the Parish Office.

THANK YOU
We have been so very fortunate to have Mickey DeBenedictis along with her husband Mike, take responsibility for the enormous job of coordinating the Food Certificates for the past few years. This job requires many hours of work to be sure that the certificates are where they should be so that people can purchase them to help the homeless….

Mickey has handed over the day to day operation of this great ministry to John Berry, in order to spend more time with her family….. We are very grateful for all she has done to build this ministry…Thank you Mike and Mickey.
