The Career Decisions Ministry has been serving individuals who are unemployed or underemployed since 2008. It brings knowledgeable parishioners and community professionals together with individuals who are or will be facing unemployment, thinking about planned career/employment changes, questions or decisions, in a supportive, welcoming, environment. Whether you are new to the workforce, are at a significant point in your life, or are searching for direction, skills, or support as you work through a job search or assess your career, we can help!


Services provided include career/employment related group workshops, employment resource information sharing, and individualized one on one support. The workshops are conducted by professionals who are experienced at selecting, recruiting, developing, leading and/or working with people. If you know of someone who would benefit from learning more, take that step to share this Career Decisions Ministry course overview and encourage them to call or write to set a time to meet.

Volunteers are welcome! Help others who are going through employment/career transitions. The time you give can be as short as referring one individual to relevant job opportunities to a more on-going relationship such as a mentor or a coach providing 1-on-1 advice regarding career issues, interests or goals. September 5: How People Hire; How People Find Work
Various business professionals on the Cape will share their advice and suggestions to help you be more successful in your job search preparation and results.

September 19: Interviewing Skills to Win the Job
Having effective interviewing skills makes a major difference in your job search success. Gain insight on the preparation work required, how your presence and attitude count and proper follow up etiquette. Role-play experience. 

October 3: Resume Writing – Have That Resume That Sets You Apart
Making sure you have a well written and effective resume – an important communication document. Learn the components and explore the useful tips to a power resume.

October 17: Job Posting Skills
Gain an understanding of the techniques to look for jobs on the internet (including both company and job posting sites). What hiring managers and recruiters look for, and tips on how to get your resume noticed. Understand the value of web based social and professional communities. Become aware of your career brand and how important it is to your success. 

November 7 & 21: Invigorating Your Job Search: Refreshing Your Search
and Reinventing Yourself

If you are: in a job search, currently working but desire to pursue your passion/dream job; worried about losing your current job; wanting to re-energize yourself; YET you: know the job you want is not there today (may never be); or feel you don’t know how to make a career change on your own. These special sessions will help you go through the self-assessment process and then present the essential and practical steps to do the work. Each main component of the workshop will have active discussion on self-assessment, determining work life goals, resume building, job search strategies, research and technology, interviewing, negotiations and job offers, and sustaining the focus/energy though the process.

December 5: "Pulling It All Together" with focus on these key areas:
A session to focusing on self-assessment, having a compelling one minute elevator speech and “leaning” into the job search.

 December 19: One - On - One Discussions
Benefit from one-on-one meetings with professionals from many areas of business. Bring your resume and your career or job search questions to gain insight, guidance, and personalized suggestions that can help you achieve your goals.

December 5: Using the Phone Effectively in Your Job Search
Understand the importance of effective telephone interviewing skills, informational interviews, networking, gathering information, for follow-ups, etc.

December 19: You are Not Alone
Bring your faith along this job search journey! Reflect on what is important, and keep yourself focused!
