Faith Formation Goals
Formation in faith is not just for children. All catechetical documents since Vatican II stress the importance of adult formation. “Catechesis for adults, since it deals with persons who are capable of an adherence that is fully responsible, must be considered the chief form of catechesis. All other forms, which are indeed always necessary, are in some way oriented to it.” (Catechesi tradenae, 43) Formation in faith is a life-long, multifacted process in which we all participate. Following are my goals and dreams for parishioners of all ages.
I want all of us, every member of OLV & OLH Parish Community,

  • to understand with every fiber of our being that God loves us and to live in response to that love.
  • to know the depth, breadth, beauty and richness of the Christian Story and the Catholic Faith Tradition.
  • to hear and understand the Word of God as revealed in Scripture and to internalize its essential truths.
  • to participate fully in the Sacramental and liturgical life of the Church and to experience a meaningful private and communal prayer life.
  • to live in right, loving relationships with God and others and to continue to grow in those relationships.
  • to nurture and support each other and to be nurtured and supported in loving, faith-filled communities.
  • to have life to the fullest and to live in ways that are life-giving to others.
  • to make good ethical and moral choices that promote justice and peace.
  • to realize all our God-given potential and use it in service for the common good.

These goals of holistic faith formation take a lifetime to accomplish and an entire community to achieve. What we do in faith formation programs is only a part of the greater whole. We, each as individuals and together as a parish community, teach and contribute to the formation of others by the way we live, love, pray and serve.
