Food Certificates: Homeless Prevention
History: In 2000, our parish made the decision to become a member of Barnstable Interfaith Council (BIC). A group of volunteers was organized to begin selling food cards or certificates at each of the weekend masses and at the parish office during the week.
How does the program work? The food cards and certificates are purchased in bulk by BIC from:
- Cape Cod Health Food Store;
- Lamberts;
- Roche Bros.;
- Shaws/Star;
- Stop & Shop .
Buying in bulk allows BIC to receive a 5% discount. The food cards/certificates are then sold at face value and at no cost to you. 5% of your purchase goes directly to The Prevention of Homelessness Program.
NEW! Turn in your Shaw’s/Star register receipts and Shaw’s will contribute 1% of the purchases to the Prevention Program. Bring the receipts to the weekend masses and give them to the volunteers who sell food gift cards. We'll do the rest!
