Vocabulary Words from GIFT Sessions
Gifts of the Holy Spirit – wisdom, understanding, right judgment, courage, knowledge, reverence, wonder and awe in the presence of the Lord.
Grace – God’s unconditional love given to us which then enables us to perform good works.
Holiness – a person who is living in the right relationship with God, others, and with all of his creation; being in the state of grace.
Resurrection – Jesus was raised from the dead to a new and glorified life on Easter Sunday.
The Three Theological Virtues – the gifts of God that enable us to live a life of holiness.
Faith – belief in god and all that he has said and revealed to us.
Hope – we desire and trust that God will fulfill all his promises, especially the promise of eternal life.
Love – is charity; loving God above all things and your neighbor as yourself for the love of God.
Balance – equality in total, creating harmony of mind, body, spirit.
Christian Spirituality – many styles have developed over the centuries and there is no right or wrong among them. All are ultimately rooted in the Eucharist.
Contemplation – to be attentive to the mystical awareness of God’s being in prayer.
Grace – God’s unconditional love given to us which then enables the individual to perform good works that merit salvation.
Meditation – a quieting of the mind and body to hear the Voice of God in your heart.
Mindful – to be aware and considerate.
Patience – to wait calmly and quietly.
Perseverance – continuance in a state of grace leading to eternal salvation.
Reflect – to think quietly and calmly.
Reverence – to show honor and respect.
Silence – no sound or noise.
Spirituality – the way we express a living faith in the real world.
The Rule of Saint Benedict – is a way of life rooted in the Gospel and grounded in the scriptural principles of charity, humility, stability, and faithfulness.
Choice - making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.
Confession - disclosure of one's sins to a priest, asking for God’s forgiveness.
Examination of Conscience – an awareness of where God has been in your day; a process of calling to mind things that happened, expressing gratitude and recalling your failings.
Forgiveness – show mercy, to excuse another’s faults .
Grace – the gift of God’s life in you.
Peace – quiet and tranquility.
Penance – the name for the prayer the priest gives you in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Reconciliation – to make amends, find peace through the act of confession.
