May Prayer

GIFT ROAD MAP AT HOME
Prayer Path for May

The One Who Owns the Water

I dreamt last night …That I could see
The Lord upon the water,
But my boat was small,…
And the waves were tall,
And my faith began to falter.

He smiled and said, “don’t fret my child,
Your journey do not alter,
For I am here to be with you,
And I also own the water.”

So He got on board my little boat,
The waves they ran for cover,
And it was pure joy, just He and I,
My own Eternal Lover.

So now when I see the storms of life,
At a glance I seek the father,
And I get in my boat,
And wait for him –
The One who owns the water.

Lord of life, gentle and mild,
Touch me, touch me,
Your sick and hopeful child.

April Prayer

Description: MC900048039[1]

Act of Hope

O my God,
relying on your almighty power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon for my sins,
the help of your grace, and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.

March Prayer

Jesus, you are the light of the world.
You promised that if we stay close to you,
We will never be lost in the darkness.
Help us to stay with you always.
Amen.

February Prayer

Teach me your ways, Lord;
make them known to me.
Teach me to walk in your truth,
for you are my savior,
and I can always place my trust in you.
The Lord is just and good.
He shows the humble the way
and teaches them his will.
With Loyalty and love he leads all those
who obey his commandments.

January Prayer

Pray the Psalms!

During the January GIFT session we will explore the teachings of St. Benedict who was a sixth century Italian monk who provided rules to finding spiritual wholeness. An important characteristic of Benedictine spirituality is praying the Psalms. A traditional way to pray the Psalms with your family is to pray from side to side. One side recites the odd-numbered verses alternating with the other side reciting the even-numbered verses.
Below is Psalm 4.  It is short enough for your family to pray at mealtime. If you have very young children, choose only a couple of the verses!

1 Answer me when I call, O God of my right!
You gave me room when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

2 How long, you people, shall my honor suffer shame?
How long will you love vain words, and seek after lies?

3 But know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself;
the Lord hears when I call him.

4 When you are disturbed, do not sin;
ponder it on your beds, and be silent.

5 Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord.

6 There are many who say, “O that we might see some good!
Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord!”

7 You have put gladness in my heart more than when
their grain and wine abound.

8 I will both lie down and sleep in peace;
for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.

December Prayer

Blessing of your Advent Wreath

Advent wreath

Lord God,
your church joyfully awaits the coming of its Savior,
who enlightens our hearts
and dispels the darkness of ignorance and sin.
Pour forth your blessings upon us
as we light the candles of the wreath;

may their light reflect the splendor of Christ,
who is Lord, for ever and ever.  Amen.

The blessing may conclude with a verse from O come, O come, Emmanuel; as Saint Augustine says “When one sings one prays twice.”

O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou wisdom on high;
Who ord’rest all things mightily
To use the path of knowledge show
And teach us in her ways to go.
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai's height,
In ancient times did'st give the Law,
In cloud, and majesty and awe.
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

November Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

Our father who art in heaven,
hallowed by thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and
Forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

October Prayer

U Got 2 Pray!

Lord, I pray to You,
teach us to pray and take us deeper into Your mystery.
Help us to be less concerned and worried about prayer
and more and more focused on and committed to simply prayin;
give us Your gift of peace,
the peace that every person desperately needs and yearns for,
the peace that is beyond all understanding,
the peace necessary to live in modern culture
which confronts us with ever and more difficult challenges every day.
Let this peace fill our hearts
and overflow to the hearts of all peoples in every culture, everywhere right now.
Teach us to pray always, in different ways, at all times,
for different reasons, and even for no reason other than just to be with You,
to have peace and to live with and to love one another.
Thank You, Lord…Amen

September Prayer

On our journey we will provide you with inspirational prayers that will lead you on a path to love, to forgive, to express to seek to find what your inner spirit may need... This is also where you will find our traditional Catholic prayers that we have put together to help you learn and teach the family that joins us together in faith with Catholic families around the world.

When I have failed I will be careful not to lose heart and
I will think that sometimes God permits this to happen
so that I may become more humble and
entrust myself once more wholly in his loving care.
After any fault I will make a profound act of humility and then begin again, as cheerfully as ever,
smiling as if God had just caressed me,
kissed me and raised me with his own hands -
and I will set out once more, confident, joyful,
'in the name of the Lord'.

(Blessed Pope John XXIII)
