Our Peace and Justice group, Pax Christi - Cape Cod,
is one of the 250 local groups of Pax Christi USA,
the National Section of Pax Christi International,
the Catholic Peace movement
Pax Christi strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence. This work begins in personal life and extends to communities of reflection and action to transform structures of society. Pax Christi USA rejects war, preparation of war, and every form of violence and domination. It advocates privacy of conscience, economic and social justice, and respect for creation. The quarterly publication of Pax Christi USA is "Catholic Peace Voice”; CPV can be found in the "candle room".
Our local group meets in one of the class-rooms at Our Lady of Victory from 9:30 to 11 AM on the second Tuesday of the month. We share in prayer, study and action for Peace and Justice. Everyone is invited to join us and participate.
Our study has covered for example: the Bishops' statement on "Catholic Social Justice"; the "Seamless Garment"/ consistent life ethics issues; the Vow of Non-Violence; the lives of non-violent Peacemakers; the "Bread not Stones" campaign from Pax Christi – USA.
Our actions lead us for example in: letter writing, e-mailing and phone calls to be the voice of those who have no voice: the homeless, the poor, the prisoners, those who are exploited politically, economically...; peace vigils in Washington DC; at Fort Benning, GA, for the closing of the "School of America"; in front of the White House against nuclear weapons ...; participation in prayer services, fast, gathering in support of non-violence alternatives to conflicts, wars... nation wide, and locally through our action in Cape Codder for Peace and Justice; taking part in the on going lobbying of NETWORK in Washington; witnessing our commitment to non-violence in our daily life; preparing the Peace Mass on January first.
