INFO:
WHAT IS THE PEER LEADERSHIP TEAM?
Our Lady of Victory Parish’s Peer Leadership Team is open to all high school students. Peer Leadership Team (PLT) members are not afraid to lead by example; they are committed to helping and supporting their peers; they are willing to live as disciples in service to others and to their communities; they seek to grow in their relationship with God and with one another.
- What is expected of PLT members? What kind of commitment is required?
- Being a member of the PLT requires a serious commitment to leadership – and therefore to service – much as being a member of the student council at school does. Your friends and peers, the parish staff, and the larger parish community are depending on you to be creative and come up with new ideas, to plan events and projects, and to be the voice of the young church. All PLT members are asked to commit to:
- *attendance at and participation in two meetings per month, from Sept. through June. One meeting each month will be a leadership skill-building workshop (topics include problem solving, event planning, peer-to-peer counseling, etc.), the other a service project and/or trip (for example, preparing and serving a meal at a local domestic violence shelter, organizing a ski trip for parish youth, traveling to Boston to visit a homeless shelter…).
- *active participation in the parish Confirmation program and/or in a parish ministry (such as music ministry, serving as a Eucharistic minister or lector, teaching in the faith formation program, etc.).
- *participation in a scheduled Peer Leadership Team weekend retreat.
*Unlimited opportunities to make a difference in the lives of your friends and peers – whether by quietly listening to what they have to say or by actively helping them through a difficult time.
*New experiences and friends, memories that will last a lifetime, challenges that will inspire growth, a deepening understanding of faith, and celebrations of a job well done – all are yours for the taking!
- How do you join?
All students interested in being a member of the Peer Leadership Team must complete and submit an application. Applications are available in the Parish Office and on the parish website, www.olvparish.org, under the “Teen Faith Formation” link.

- What’s in it for you?
*All of the positive feelings that come with helping others and serving your community!
*The leadership skills you will learn and apply as a member of this team are skills that you will be able to put with confidence on every college, employment, and scholarship application for years to come.
